National conversation about T1

We are inviting you to be part of a national conversation to inform the future of diabetes education, training and support to schools across Australia.

The Australian Government has asked Diabetes Australia to develop a new nationally consistent training and education program to support type 1 diabetes management in schools.

Diabetes NSW & ACT already delivers diabetes education and support to schools across NSW through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) and the As1 Diabetes Program. State and Territory Departments of Education and the Catholic and Independent school systems also provide support in various ways to help schools support students with type 1 diabetes.

This project will further build on these services and help establish an approach that can be tailored by individual schools regardless of their location and what type of school they are.

We invite you to be part of a discussion to help inform this work and to help us to understand the needs of NSW schools in supporting students with type 1 diabetes.

We wish to talk to as many principals, teachers, school nurses and school staff as possible.

We want to hear about your experiences!

  • What works well?
  • What needs to be improved?
  • What support and information do you use that is helpful?
  • Are the needs different in primary school and secondary school?
  • Who should be responsible for what?

Your experiences will be used to help develop a national training and education program to support schools to manage type 1 diabetes in students.

We have engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to help us with this project. They have arranged several consultation sessions. Please register for one of these sessions from the dates listed below.
