Diabetes NSW & ACT is excited to announce our latest project. LifeoneD. A new mobile app for young people living with type 1 diabetes.
Do have questions about your diabetes you need answered? Practical tips from a reliable source about living with diabetes can be hard to find.
We thought so, and that’s why Diabetes NSW & ACT is developing LifeoneD a quick info app with practical tips about a range of topics relating to life, diabetes and family. Through the app you’ll have information available anytime. It will be quick to read and include simple tips.
What’s included in the app
The topics will be split up in three categories plus a resources section for further reading and links to trusted websites:
Life & diabetes – topics that are part of living but may be impacted by the diagnosis of diabetes, requiring additional planning or consideration
All things diabetes – topics specific to managing diabetes
Friends & family – topics about communicating with family and friends about living with diabetes
So far, we have twenty-seven topics ready to go!
About the project
Back in the day when mobile phones were a lot less smart, we had a range of postcards covering various topics. A bit like a paper app! They were very popular among young people, and their family and friends. The topics were often ones that were they were not comfortable asking in a diabetes clinic visit. The card was a starting point and could be used as a conversation starter with the health professionals. Sometimes the information on the postcard answered the question.
We decided that we could update the postcards, add some additional topics and develop a mobile app. Sydney Local Health District generously funded the development of the app.
About the app
The mobile app will be available early 2022. You will be able to download it from the web rather than the Apple App Store or Android Store. This means we can continue adding content and it will automatically update. You won’t have to check for updates.
Stay tuned, for the new mobile app for type 1 diabetes which will be ready to download at the end of January 2022.
